The sanctuary, which is registered to Alltwen Farm, Derwent Road in Pontardawe, has more than 6,000 followers on social media and has been involved in a number of controversial 'rescues' of horses right across the country since May 2019. Owned by Sandra Kvaerneng Stolp, Whispering Willows gained a huge following after its involvement with the high-profile 'rescue' of Gary, the pony found in a Lidl car park, and a pregnant horse which collapsed in Cardiff city centre due to 'heat stroke'. We understand that "well over" one hundred horses are being removed for welfare reasons. In total, there are five groups, including the RSPCA, involved in an operation to rehome a large number of horses found at the Whispering Willows Sanctuary in Swansea. Animal welfare organisations have swooped in on a controversial horse sanctuary and started removing horses amid growing concerns for their wellbeing.
